Piemonte
Walking through the Vineyards of Northern Italy
October 1 – 8, 2012
Famed for its truffles, and with town names like Barolo and Barbaresco, it’s easy to understand why Piemonte is a gourmet’s paradise. With its abundance of excellent fresh produce and talented artisan food producers it comes as no surprise that the Slow Food movement started here. And for wine lovers Piemonte offers something to suit every palate, from the most powerful long-lived reds to the lightest most delicate whites. But Piemonte offers much more than gastronomic delights- the countryside is as beautiful as it is bountiful. Our walks take us across the gentle, rolling hills of the Roero and Langhe, covered by a patchwork of immaculate vineyards and hazelnut groves and stopping along the way in attractive villages, medieval towns and hill top castles..
Day 1 & 2
Meet in the magnificent city of Torino, Piemonte’s cosmopolitan capital. Explore a landscape of rolling hills between Asti and Alba. Stroll through the vineyards of Mango and Nieve to 13th C Busca Castle. Visit the iconic village of Barbaresco, and enjoy a tasting of this powerful red wine. Visit to Alba, the truffle capital of Piemonte
Day 3 & 4
Explore Alta Langa , a wild landscape of forests, vineyards and hazelnut groves. Enjoy a regional wine tasting, showcasing the best that Piemonte has to offer, accompanied by local cheeses. Visit Murazzano, the regional capital of cheese for a tasting of the famous cheese Robiola. Visit an organic vineyard and learn about organic viticulture.
Day 5, 6 & 7
Stay in La Morra, one of the most beautiful wine villages in Barolo. Taste the famed wines of this region with a local producer. Visit the village of Barolo, and its state of the art wine museum. Go on a truffle hunt with a local expert and his dog. Feast on freshly prepared pasta and truffles at a lake-side trattoria.
